Latitude has introduced a Location Based Offer notification feature in the Latitude App to advise customers of offers when they are near a participating retailer (currently available for selected Harvey Norman stores but may expand to other retailers in the future). This article outlines what it does, how to manage permissions, and how to opt in or out.
What is the Location Based Offer feature in the Latitude App?
The Location Based Offer feature allows the Latitude App to send a push notification when a registered customer’s device is near a participating retailer store.
If permissions are correctly enabled:
- A push notification is sent
- Tapping the notification opens a Retailer Offer landing page in the device's browser
- No login is required to view the content
How does it work?
The Location Based Offer feature functions only when:
- Push Notifications toggle is enabled
- Location Based Offers toggle is enabled
Note: for Location Based Offers toggle to be enabled:
- System Settings for Location Services must be set to:
- iOS: “Always”
- Android: “Allow all the time”
- If customers select “While Using” or “Only This Time”, geofence notifications will not be triggered in the background.
Where do notifications appear?
- If all permissions are active, customers will receive a push notification
- Tapping the notification opens a Retailer Offer landing page
- The landing page opens in the device browser (not the app)
- The customer does not need to log in

Additionally, for brand new App customers (or existing App customers updating to the latest App version with Location Based Offers), a once-off set of screens may appear after login to prompt to select System Settings permissions for location access and background location access

- When prompted for location access even when not using the app, select “Change to Always Allow”
Android

How to turn off Location Based Offer Notifications
Customers can opt out at any time.

- Toggle OFF Location based offers
From Device Settings:
iOS

- You may have recently received a notification – we will NOT send you another notification more than once a week
- You may have a block code or marketing restriction against your account
FAQs
Is this feature used with other retailers?
No. The Location Based Offer feature is currently enabled for Harvey Norman only.
Why does it require background location access?
This allows the app to detect when the device is near a store, even when the app is closed. Without background access, notifications won’t be delivered.
Can the customer opt out?
Yes. They can turn off the feature in the app or revoke permissions in their device settings.
Does this impact other features in the Latitude App?
No. Location Based Offer is a separate, optional feature that does not affect other functions in the app.
